Opening Session
Panel 1: The Integrated Maritime Policy and Environmental Port Strategy
The ports are the hub-point of the Core Regional Transport Networks, as precursors for the TEN-T comprehensive network in the South East Europe. In this direction, a great responsibility was entrusted to the port authorities: they are the authority appointed for the Control and the real application of the Environmental Manage System, being the nodes that ensure the environmental sustainability of the intermodal transport networks, to them is entrust the management of the public area in which operate a lot of external enterprises that ensure the economic development of the cities and their environmental quality.
Question and Answer session
Panel 2: TEN ECOPORT Platform
The TEN ECOPORT Platform foresees the activation of education and promotion campaigns for increasing the awareness about the environmental and economic advantages of the Sustainable Management of Port networks. The project platform aims also to improve the quality, harmonize and extend the applicability of environmental system within the port areas thus providing sustainable growth in competitiveness of the ports and their equal involvement within the SEE European network. Peer education activities increase the capacity of the port authorities to provide strategies for the future of sea-transport networks that do not affect the surrounding ecosystems.
Question and Answer session
Panel 3: From Policies to the Practice
Overwhelming human pressures on coastal environment demand actions to stop ecological deterioration. A fundamental step of the project represents the implementation and relative evaluation "on situ" of the policies, guidelines, skill of working group trained and aims to provide methods and plans for identifying removing the specific critical issues, vulnerability risk and weakness of the area surrounding ports; the developing and implementing of a intelligent environmental port management and information systems using integrated technologies for environmental risk protection in order to reduce impacts on human health, biodiversity and other environmental issues. The construction of a common framework for management activities at ports (Common Model for environmentally and sustainable development of South East European ports) has become acutely necessary as a core objective in the European project TEN ECOPORT.
Question and Answer session
Panel 4: Monitoring and Process performance measures
Fostering and ensuring the sustainable development of the sea-corridors through the implementation the process performance measures, monitoring, its control system, mentoring/tutoring of Port Operators is difficult task. The difficulty is in defining the link between implemented processes and the foreseen results. The consideration makes necessary to follow up the process step by step, monitoring intermediate results and identifying the critical points in order to modify, over time, the implemented programs through a closed chain approach. In order to achieve better define the feasibility studies for implementing simulation of EMS system for the port operators it is demanded stronger involvement of stake holders and research institutes.
Question and Answer session
Panel 5: TEN ECOPORT/ECOPORT 8 and its future
In order to ensure the Sustainability and Transferability of the project activities for the future the creation of a Task Force is envisaged. This Task Force will gather all the knowledge and experienced gained within both projects, so that to continue support and offering services to ports of SEE and generally to EU organizations. This NGO will provide policy suggestions and solutions and will an independent consultant to both port authorities and European Union.
